Math Centers

January 6th, 2009

Math centers are so much fun! We divide into groups and rotate around to various activities. Some of these centers include graphing, counting objects based on a number of items in a picture, making designs using pattern blocks, etc!!

Although the weather did not cooperate for our class party, we still had a fun time with our book exchange when we came back from Christmas break.  Thank you to everyone for participating!

Turkey Says, “Eat More….”

November 20th, 2008

We have been working on a fun activity this week, trying to spare turkey one more time! We brainstormed and wrote a list of the different foods we could eat instead of turkey. Each child thought of a food and then we wrote these foods interactively. We then decorated our turkeys, drew the food we had chosen on his “picket” sign and used the chart that we made to label our food or wrote the word the way it sounds to us.

Today, each student created the first page of their book, “Kindergarten, Kindergarten, What Do You See.” First, we revisited the sentence that we wrote together on Friday, “We see a red leaf”. Each Kindergartener was then given that sentence which was cut up into words. Everyone rebuilt their sentence to match the sentence that we had written, glued it to their paper, wrote the sentence on the bottom and finally added an illustration to match the words! Tomorrow, we will work on our next page!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear

November 16th, 2008

“Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” has become one of our favorite stories this week. We have enjoyed reading it many times! We went into the cafeteria on Friday and used our character vests to sequence the characters as they appeared in the story. Half of the class chose an animal while the other half of the class read along in their own books. Then we switched so that everyone had a turn. We even started our own version of the story, “Kindergarten, Kindergarten, What Do You See?” and interactively wrote the first sentence that will be in our book, “We see a red leaf.”
