Hey All Stars! 2009 is here! Whoo hoo! Here is what is on tap for our first week back from winter break!
Thank you to all of the bloggers out there who leave comments on my page! You rock! I would also like to give a sincere thank you to all of the students who so generously gave me holiday gifts. I am so fortunate to be your teacher! Your kindness and thoughtfulness is overwhelming! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Regular Math-On Wednesday we will have a quiz on Factors, Prime Factorization and GCF. We will also be starting some work with fractions and extended response questions like those found on the ISAT’s. It will be a fun week as we clean out the cobwebs from having 17 days off!
Enriched Math-This week we will be reviewing and finishing up integers, integer equations, prime factorization, GCF and LCM with a quiz on Thursday. We will also take a look at some equivalent fractions and decimals. I am sure it will be a doozy of a week.
Social Studies-We will be working in the computer labs on our research and keynote presentations for our Greek god and goddesses. If you are able to use the internet at home to work on additional research that is great, but not mandatory. Please use the safe sites I gave you in class. Presentations will be given during the week of January 12th and you will be able to use my wall projector in class!
Hey guys! How are you? I hope staying warm! Holy hole in a donut it is COLD!! Speaking of donut holes that would be nice to have with some HOT chocolate! Extra on the HOT!! The best part about this weather is that when I have to let Magnus and Razor outside they are back quick!
Yesterday Magnus got caught in a snow drift….oh man, I wish I could have captured it on video! It was like seeing this wrecking ball disappear into a cloud of white! Poor thing! That deep snow wears you out when you are only 6 inches off the ground to begin with!!
Well, let me know what you are up to over break and any super hype gifts that you are giving or have received this holiday season. Please use a code name or your first name only. :) Stay warm and I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Whoo hoo! We made it! Just 5 days until Winter Break! I can hardly believe it…this fall has gone SO FAST! Let’s see, despite the holidays we are going to be tackling some fun concepts this week…..
Regular Math- I hope you all finished your Chapter 3 test corrections for Monday. We are going to start Chapter 4 and also start reviewing the Extended Response portion of ISAT. Over break I will be giving you a packet so you can stay sharp on your basic facts and decimals.
Enriched Math- We are going to continue on with Chapter 2 and tackle some fraction concepts. You will also be seeing some practice Extended Response Questions for ISAT and have a packet on integers to work on over break.
Social Studies- Our Greek project is going to be Keynote presentations on the gods and goddesses. We will be learning about the main gods and goddesses this week and start our research. After break we will head to the computer lab to create our presentations. For those of you who are not familliar with Apple Macs, Keynote is Apple’s version of Microsoft PowerPoint. I am really looking forward to these presentations…you guys are going to ROCK!!
Friday we will celebrate the holidays with some homeroom time and then rotate classrooms for some fun activities! Holiday Pictionary, a Holiday Scavenger Hunt, Cookie/Cupcake Decorating (let your homeroom teacher know if you can bring supplies) and Holiday BINGO. We will spend the afternoon watching Wall-E.
Remember it is cold and flu season so get lots of rest and wash your hands with soap as often as possible. We have installed hand sanitizer in the front of the lunch lines and computer labs to try to help stop those germs. Be sure to clean your cell phones and computer keyboards at home too! Bundle up…it’s cold out there!
Mathletes is Monday from 3:15-4:00pm in the Library. Come join the fun!
Hey musical homies! Can I just tell you how much you rock? Okay…let me….YOU ROCK! The concert today was awesome. I am sure that the band performed so well because of their guest conductor last Tuesday….yeah, you know who I am talking about…ME! Hahahahahahaha!! That is a good one! Hardy, har, har! I would like to give a shout out to all of the band members, especially the percussion section for helping everyone stay on beat…Harvard, you are an ace on the triangle! No one plays it better than you, buddy!! And to my choir friends…Don’t go sing it on the mountain! Stay right here at GMS!! You were awesome!! Loved it! Kickin’ it Musical Maple Leaf Style….holla!!
Please comment about something you would like to do or try in 2009. There are a plethora of things you could post….but please don’t say any altercations with friends, parents, siblings, and/or strangers on your list! Ha! How’s that for working in the Words of the Week?? :)

Enriched Math- We will continue with Chapter 2 and our work with Integers, Integer Equations, Prime Factorizaton, LCM and GCF. It will be a busy week! :) I also have some cool bookmarks/graphic organizers to share with you that have all of the prime numbers from 1-100 listed on them and the divisibility rules to help us out! They are way cool!

Connections- You are welcome to bring a beverage (sealed, no more than 20 oz.) to class on Wednesday. I am hoping to do some more with 90 second alphabet and props.
Hey! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! Thank you to all of the bloggers out there who are responding to my posts. My Thanksgiving was good and I am thankful for elastic waist pants! I ate too much! In fact, I had to go workout today just so I would feel better! :) Here is what is happening this week…..keep in mind it is only 15 school days until Christmas break!
Social Studies- We will be finishing up discussing Nubia and then starting our test review. Our Egypt test is Thursday and we will start Greece next.
Enriched Math- More integers, especially in equations. Remember that the “math fairies” are not trying to trick you and you just have to take your time and follow the rules you have already learned! It just takes practice!
Regular Math- More decimals this week and a quiz on Tuesday.
bum, bum, bee, bum, bum raise the decimal……Thanks Karah for that awesome connection between Rihanna and math! You rock!
I hope all of you have a great, safe and belly-filled Thanksgiving! I am very thankful to have each of you in my classes and will miss you over the break! Good Luck to Mr. Martin and the Maple Leafs at the high school boys basketball tournament! Happy Thanksgiving!
Hey All Stars! Thanks for all of your comments to my blog! I think you are all awesome and please know that when you ask me questions I will try to answer when I post your comments but sometimes I don’t have a lot of time and just want to get them posted so you can see how COOL your comment looks! LOL! I hope you understand!
Here’s what’s up for this SHORT (whoo hoo!!) week…..don’t forget (like you could even forget this) early out on Wednesday and no school Thursday or Friday. We also have shortened classes and Connections on Wednesday so please make sure you have any necessary supplies or dress appropriately depending on your Connection.
Social Studies- We are starting to read some chapters in a book called Mummies, Tombs and Treasure. It’s very fly and wait until you hear the story of Osiris! It is truly a Ancient Egyptian soap opera! Just you wait! And of course we are mummifying chickens on Wednesday. (YUM!)
Enriched Math- We are going to work more with Integer Equations and we will have a short quiz on Wednesday. (Yes, you get to use your rules sheet!) LOL
Regular Math- We will be continuing with more decimal work….long division and multiplication. I am confident that you all know what to do, but it might not make your list of top 5 fantastic things to do….so let’s smile as we do it because it will make people wonder what we are up to!!
Connections- Just in case any of my Connection homies are checking my blog…..you are welcome to bring a sealed drink (no more than 20 oz.) to Connections on Wednesday. Don’t forget your “Dating Game” characters. I would also like to try a new game called the Alphabet Game….It is when you get a topic and then then you have to start each sentence with the next letter of the alphabet, alternating between partners….I may not be explaining it very well, so more on that Wednesday.
One more thing…..please try to use this week to tell those who you love or have made a positive impact upon you that you are thankful to have them in your life. Don’t miss the chance to be thankful this week!
