English Extra Credit Opportunities

You have the opportunity to earn a total of 5 points of extra credit per quarter, for a total of 10 per semester.  Proof of completion must be submitted by the Monday before the end of the quarter.

Ideas:

  • Locate and enter a writing contest.
  • A place to start is Teen Ink http://teenink.com  Show me a copy of the piece you entered and a copy of the entry form. Be sure to let me know if you get published!
  •  Sign up for and participate in the Read for a Lifetime or Abraham Lincoln reading programs you learned about during Mrs. Brucher’s book talks. Turn in a list of the books you read.
  • Attend a “cultural” event.  Show me your ticket stub or some other proof that you were there and write a brief review of the experience. (5 points)
  • We have the most amazing band, choir, drama, and speech students in the universe!  Listen for announcements and plan to attend an event.
  • Go to a play at the Richmond Hill Barn Theatre.
  • Attend a book or poetry reading at a local bookstore or coffeehouse.
  • There are many colleges and universities in this area that host fabulous events.  Check out their websites for dates and times.
  • Locate a vocabulary word we’ve studied and mark it in your book, then including book title and page number write it down and turn it in. You will earn one point per word. (5 words /quarter max.)

  • Take control of your own learning and create your very own idea for earning extra credit and submit it to Mrs. Schneden for approval.

Hi Seniors!

With only a week until school starts, I thought I would review expectations that were sent to all of you via Skyward Messenger tonight (August 9th):

1.  You need a Google Mail account. See Setting Up a Gmail Account handout posted in the PREVIOUS ENTRIES below. The sooner you do this, the better!  You must have it (and have sent me an email) no later than Monday, August 22nd, in order to receive full completion credit.

2. Supply List.  It would be best if you had your supplies by Friday, August 19th, but definitely no later than Tuesday, August 23rd.

« 3-ring binder-2” (stays in classroom)

« Tab dividers (8 tabs)*

« Student Planner/Organizer

« A “R&R” book of your choice

« A pencil, pen & highlighters

« Dictionary and thesaurus available for use at home.

If you (or your parents) have ANY questions, please email at mschneden@dist228.org.

I’m excited to have some familiar faces (and a bunch of new ones) in class this year!  See you on the 17th, 2nd hour! :)
