1.) Look at the visual and complete it on your sheet. (Do the best you can this is more for me to make sure that you actually looked at the visual in detail not a grade of your artistic ability)
2.) Read the information handout for each area of Roman life.
3.) Answer the Trivia Question
4.) Think about the reading and list at least 3 differences between modern life and the life of ancient Romans.

Political Cartoon Activity
Step 1: Locate and print 4 political cartoons. These could be featuring current currents or historical events.
Step 2: Complete a cartoon deconstruction worksheet for each. Download the form cartoon_analysis_worksheet. (Note that you should type your answers on this sheet, but you can not save it- make sure you print what you have if time runs out for the day).
Step 3: Choose 1 of the 4 to explain to the class. Identify which tools are used- Irony, Satire, Symbolism, Caricature, Visual Impact, Stereotypes and explain what the event is commenting on.
Step 4: Staple all worksheets and cartoons into a packet.

Life in the trenches

When there is 10 minutes left in the period you may start your assignment which is…to write a 1 page letter home describing your life in combat/the trenches during WWI. Try to be realistic, accurate, and detailed. You can address your letter to your parents, your “sweet heart” or your buddy at home.
