Check out the signs of Spring popping up right outside our door at Southwest!
The Kindergarten classes at Southwest were treated to an assembly presented by the Henry County Health Department about the Food Pyramid. We learned the different food groups that make up the pyramid, why it’s important to make healthy choices and how many servings of each group we should try to eat every day. At the end we were “tested” to see if we were good listeners by sorting foods into their appropriate groups.
During Writer’s Workshop we learn important writing skills such as using detail in our illustrations, having our picture match our story, finger spaces between words, writing left to write, listening for the sounds in our words, etc. We love free write days when we can write about anything we want to! If you would like to see more photos of journal time click on the sidebar entitled Journals.
We wrapped up our five senses unit last week. Our favorite activities were the taste test, smelly cups and the touch bags. Can you guess which activity this picture is from? More photos at the sidebar under “senses”.
In celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, Miss Paula from the Henry County Farm Bureau read us “Hop On Pop”. Then we got to hop and pop bubble wrap! That was so much fun. Finally, we popped and ate popcorn for a tasty treat!
We have been learning about different word families in Kindergarten. This week we went to the cafeteria equipped with our letter vests to “become the words”. More photos can be viewed in the sidebar entitled, “Making Words”.
Last Wednesday, we got measured by our third grade buddies! I hope you enjoyed the measurements that were sent home on Wednesday! My how the Kindergarteners have grown! You can view more pictures of this activity by clicking on the link to the left.
We were treated to an assembly presented by the Health Department last week on Dental Health. Check out our tooth and the 3 things were learned that we need our teeth for.
