The children did a great job at the concert last night and everyone looked fantastic!!

Merry Christmas!!

The second graders had a great time shopping at Wal-Mart!  We were able to buy a lot of great gifts for our Adopted Family!  Thank you to everyone who helped make this experience a success.  The Food Pantry was overwhelmed when I showed up with all of the gifts.  They really appreciated this kind gesture from the kids!!!!  Check out some of the pictures from our shopping trip!

Congratulations to our newest Subtraction Math Star!

Since we have been back from Thanksgiving break we have been very busy!

We are currently working on writing letters to Santa.  The students are in the process of writing their 1st draft and then we will make corrections so they can write their final copy.  We want these letters to be perfect because they will be published in the Geneseo Republic!!!!

We were able to visit the Book Fair this week and check out all the cool books.  To go along with Book Fair, there will be a Reading Night tomorrow night from 6:00 to 7:15.  Be sure to check out who all of the guest readers are.  There are a few teachers who are returning to Southwest to help out with this event!!!

We did another cool science experiment this week.  If you want to see the Dancing Raisins check out this link….

Congratulations to our 2nd Addition Math Star!!

Do you know what happens when you drop a roll of Mentos into Diet Coke?  If you don’t, be sure to ask your second grader because they now know!  This is what we did for our science experiment today.  The kids had a great time seeing what the reaction was going to be.

We are just beginning to work on 2 digit subtraction with regrouping.  This can be a tricky concept to pick up on so be sure to practice this at home.  You can give your child practice problems to solve or you can always visit the Harcout website!

Today in science we did an experiment called Color Changing Milk.  While doing this experiment we reviewed the steps of the Scientific Inquiry.  Ask your child what we did and what the outcome was.  The students thought this was very cool!  If you want to check out what happened in the experiment you can watch Steve Spangler’s video.

Thank You to all of the wonderful parents who helped give our class such a great fall party.  We had yummy snacks, a very cute picture frame craft and fun games!  Check out a few pictures from the party!
