GUIDELINES FOR COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

Practice is essential in developing touch typing technique. Students are encouraged to come in before/after school by appointment or during REAL time with a handbook pass. Supplementary practice materials are available for home use.

General Classroom Rules

  • Students are expected to be in the room when the bell rings. Students, upon entering the room, should immediately sit at their station and log into their account.
  • All students will observe student handbook rules--especially the school's Computer Use Agreement.
  • RESPECT THE TEACHER!
  • RESPECT THE SPACE OF THOSE YOU SIT NEXT TO!
  • RESPECT YOUR CLASSMATES!
  • RESPECT THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS!
  • RESPECT YOURSELF!

Computer Applications is taught using Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

First Quarter will include:

  • Keyboarding techniques (Lab)
  • Introduction/Reinforcement of alphabetic keyboard (Lab)
  • Introduction to Windows, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel (Lecture and Lab Activities)
  • Introduction/Reinforcement of numeric keyboard/keypad (Lab)
  • Speed and accuracy in keyboarding (Lab)
  • Production competencies (Lab)

Second Quarter will include:

  • Speed and accuracy building (Lab)
  • Keyboarding techniques (Lab)
  • Formatting: envelopes, letters, reports, agendas, and tables (Lecture, Lab)
  • Additional features of Word and Excel (Lab)

Student grades will be calculated on a total point basis using the following as a GUIDE (these are only estimates - percentages may change slightly):
